With Republicans on His Neck, Congressman Castro Determined to Do Anything to keep Seat including Support for Terrorists


The political waters in the US State of Texas are becoming ever more turbulent. The few democrats in the state legislature, and the federal Parliament (Congress), are losing sleep. They have no reason not to anyway!

The Republican Party has redrawn the political landscape in the state, leaving Democrats in desperate search for political points. One of those whose seat is unsafe is Democratic Congressman Joaquin Castro who has represented the Texas 20th Congressional District in the federal Congress in Washington since 2013.

However, since the 2020 mid-term elections at state level, and for several mid-terms previously, Republicans have a majority in the Texas State Legislature.

Last year, the Republicans redrew the congressional district lines. As a result, some districts which have been voting for democrats, have been merged with those that vote republican.

For example, media analysis of the troubling changes, show some Democrats have been drawn out of their districts. For example, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (District-18) is now in a redrawn district along with Rep. Al Green (District-9).

Other Democrats’ districts have become bluer, which opens up the chance for primary challenges. The two U.S. House districts that flipped in the 2018 midterm elections, have become Democratic vote sinks with their Biden 2020 margins over 30 percentage points under proposed maps.

There is a huge political problem for Congressional Representatives like Congressman Joaquin Castro. He is not safe. His district could disappear, or he gets pitted against powerful Republicans who could eventually oust him.

Castro is in political survival mode. He has a new strategy. Feign support for terrorism financer Paul Rusesabagina by stretching and ignoring all facts about his terror activities.

The Resolution in the US Congress two weeks ago, and a Op-Ed he wrote for the San Antonio Express-News, are part of that strategy. The title of the Op-Ed, "Rusesabagina is a hero in every sense of the word", should be able to speak volumes for Texans; that is what Castro believes.

By providing selective facts in his campaign for Rusesabagina, Castro believes Texans will put pressure en-mass on other Congress Representatives from that state to back his resolution when it eventually comes to the full House.

In addition, it will position Castro as the sensible one, who "cares" about Texans wherever they are, even when they commit heinous crimes elsewhere like it happened for Rusesabagina.

So, if by bad luck Castro's Congressional 20th District comes into play of the Republican game plan, Castro hopes to be viewed by voters favourably against any challengers.

And what better way to do it than use the San Antonio Express-News, one of the biggest newspapers in Texas with daily copy circulation of over 100,000 copies.

Smart strategy, isn’t it!

The problem though, Texans are being hoodwinked to believe that their assimilated resident Paul Rusesabagina is an angel. Yet his rebel army has left people in southern Rwanda with unimaginable pain; dead family members, limbless survivors, and region living in fear that the rebels may come back.

Texans are not to blame. It is societal influencers like the San Antonio Express-News that need a reminder that terrorism in rural Rwanda may appear to be far away from San Antonio, but it actually is not.

When the 9/11 attacks happened, the world, including Rwandans rallied with Americans. Following the 3rd August 2019 El Paso mass shooting in which gunmen killed 23 innocent people and injured many others, we prayed for you.

Our media didn’t celebrate by publishing conspiracy theories, many of which have emerged anyway. The San Antonio Express-News is helping amplify Congressman Castro's conspiracy theories about Rusesabagina.

Dr David Himbara never recovered from being refused entry into Village Urugwiro. Around the end of 2009, Himbara was replaced from his job in Office of the President. Paul Rusesabagina came to fame two decades ago as the hero in the movie  Hotel Rwanda .
